The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is a strategic partner that provides technical and financial support for flagship projects in cancer control, biological dosimetry, radiation safety, diagnostic radiology, and nutrition research. RAMSRI also serves as a training site for IAEA fellows and participates in Coordinated Research Projects (CRPs) to promote global scientific collaboration.
Through our partnership with the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), RAMSRI collaborates on infectious disease research, molecular diagnostics, and strengthening laboratory capacity. This collaboration enhances surveillance systems and bolsters Ghana’s public health response.
In partnership with the Centre for Plant Medicine Research (CPMR), RAMSRI conducts research into the radioprotective, antioxidant, and anticancer properties of medicinal plants. This collaboration connects traditional medicine with modern scientific validation.
The Ministry of Health (MoH) collaborates with RAMSRI to integrate nuclear techniques into national healthcare programmes, supporting evidence-based policy development and implementation aligned with national health priorities.
RAMSRI and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) jointly undertake community outreach initiatives, including cancer screening, nutritional assessments, and health education. Together, we are building diagnostic and research capacity to strengthen public health systems.
In collaboration with the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), RAMSRI works on quality control protocols for radiological equipment and food safety standards, ensuring that research outputs meet both national benchmarks and international regulatory frameworks.
Through our partnership with the National Radiotherapy, Oncology, and Nuclear Medicine Centre at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, RAMSRI supports cancer care delivery via equipment audits, dosimetry services, and collaborative training in nuclear medicine and radiation oncology.
RAMSRI collaborates with the Oncology Directorate of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in cancer diagnostics, radiotherapy quality assurance, and clinical trials, providing technical expertise and advanced imaging support to enhance cancer care.
RAMSRI partners with the University of Ghana (UG) in research collaboration, curriculum development, and student mentorship in radiochemistry, nutrition, and biomedical science. There is also a strong linkage with the Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS), particularly in population health and adolescent reproductive health initiatives.
RAMSRI collaborates with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on academic research, particularly in the areas of nuclear science, medical imaging, and applied physics. The Institute also provides hands-on training in diagnostic radiology and biomedical innovation to support student development and research excellence.
The joint programs between RAMSRI and the University for Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) focus on clinical nutrition, disease prevention, and diagnostic research. RAMSRI also supports laboratory-based training for UHAS students in isotope and molecular techniques.
Through its relationship with the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS), RAMSRI contributes to continuing education and standardisation in molecular biology, biosafety, and diagnostic technologies across Ghana’s laboratory workforce.
With funding support from the Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF), RAMSRI has successfully implemented capacity-building programs in molecular diagnostics and has trained over 180 biomedical professionals in emerging laboratory techniques.
